Mizuchi Dojo

Welcome to the Mizuchi Dojo

Located in the Village of Williamsville, our dojo is named with both Ellicott Creek and the Glen Falls in mind; both can be seen in the park right next door -- a mizuchi, in English, is a "water dragon".

In the "School of the Dragon", we provide instruction in a variety of Eastern disciplines, but our primary instruction is in the Okinawan martial art of karate. Specifically, Mizuchi-do, a system inspired by Isshin-ryu.

Isshin-ryu means "one heart way" and it was founded by Master Shimabuku in the 1950s. Mizuchi-do means "way of the dragon" and emphasizes the classical practice of karate focusing on individualized learning of self-defense: holds, throws, vital point manipulation, as well as the more traditional defenses, strikes, and kicks.

Explore, experience, become

The Mizuchi Dojo is home to a variety of Eastern disciplines, in addition to Mizuchi-do karate, as well as other martial arts experiences. We invite you to engage in one or even all of them.

Wing Chun

Wing Chun is a Southern Chinese Kung Fu system that requires precise non-telegraphed movement. Softness and performance of techniques in a relaxed manner is fundamental to Wing Chun.

Joy Yoga 716

Joy Yoga 716 is for busy people looking for the opportunity to refresh, relax, and rejuvenate and having fun through the practice of yoga.

Qi-do Academy

"Qi-do" translates as the "way of the lifeforce" and the Qi-do Academy will instruct its students in kenjutsu, Japanese sword techniques, as well as competition and stage performance of sword fighting.

Women's Self-defense

This course can be booked to be provided by the Mizuchi Dojo to your group of 4 - 10 women. It uses practical drills, activities, as well as discussion to improve a woman's ability to defend herself. While one 2-hour class, $200, will provide the basics of self-defense, it is recommended you sign your group up for 2-6 classes.

Benefits of studying Eastern Disciplines

Your study could be solely for physical health. Your study might only be to sharpen your mind by developing concentration and self-discipline. Or you might wish only to better engage in the connection between your spirit and the rest of the universe.

Of course, your study could be a means of doing all three. But, your study of the Eastern disciplines we offer can also be for much more.

These Eastern disciplines are a means to develop physical health, mental acuity, and spiritual connection. But they are also a way of fully engaging in this life.
